Everything You Want to Know About the Subaru Crosstrek

 

The 2016 Subaru Crosstrek, formerly XV Crosstrek, has undergone a few cosmetic changes, both inside and out, and a few technology additions to make this an even more attractive choice if you are in the market for a smaller SUV or crossover. 

What remains unchanged are the things that made the Crosstrek appealing to start with.  Standard all-wheel drive, excellent handling, and, of course, superior safety.  The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has give the 2016 Crosstrek its Top Safety Pick+ Award, which is their highest designation. 

The Crosstrek is powered by a 2.0 liter engine, producing 148 horsepower, and is available with either a manual or continuously variable-speed automatic.  It also offers great fuel economy (26/34 mpg with the CVT).

Inside, the Crosstrek offers standard features like heated seats, Bluetooth connectivity, and HD Radio.  Drivers won't feel cramped with a roomy 43.5 inches of legroom.  Subaru's Starlink™ Technology brings smartphone entertainment and communication to your dashboard, with an available 7-inch in-dash touch screen and voice-activated controls.

Subaru Will Ramp Up Production on Record Sales

 

Subaru has announced that it will be investing another $140 million into it's Lafayette, IN plant to accommodate increased demand for it's vehicles.  Subaru has achieved record sales for the sixth straight year. 

The plant will hire an anticipated 1,200 new workers, bringing the total to nearly 5,000.  "If we have to increase production capacity, it will be in the U.S. because that is where the demand is," said Yasuyuki Yoshinaga, president of Subaru parent Fuji Heavy Industries, according to Automotive News. 

Currently, roughly twenty-five percent of Subaru's Lafayette facility is dedicated to the production of the Toyota Camry, but Camry production will cease late next year to free up space for expanded Subaru production.  The increased expansion will bring output to just shy of 400,000 units, nearly double current levels.

Subaru Wins Four Categories for Resale Value

 

Kelley Blue Book has announced it's Resale Value awards, and for the second straight year, Subaru dominated the mainstream brands.  Subaru won five categories. 

 

KBB director of residual values Eric Ibara says, "...after previously winning the brand award in 2011 and 2015, Subaru is back on top once again for 2016 as the best mainstream brand for resale value across its entire lineup."

2017 Subaru Impreza Unveiled at LA Auto Show

 

At the Los Angeles Auto Show, Subaru has shown off their 2017 Impreza concept car.  The styling of the car is a nice step forward for Subaru, featuring a sleeker, less chunky look than years past.  The thought is this will be a theme throughout the Subaru line.

 

Being a concept car, the picture above is not the finished product that will be brought to market in the US (fussy Americans will probably want door handles and everything!), but this is expected to be a fairly close estimation of the look.

Subaru is teasing us with new concepts

 

At the Tokyo Motor Show, Subaru is teasing a couple of new concept cars, one being the next-gen Impreza five-door hatchback, and the other being the "Viziv Future Concept.

 

The Viziv Concept previews future technologies, including a next0generation turbocharged engine paired to a hybrid setup.  This would allow for an entirely flat floor, providing more practical space inside the vehicle. 

 

Below is a drawing of the Impreza five-door hatchback concept.  It is expected to have a late 2016 delivery for the 2017 model year.
